About Derek

I live in Ojai, California with my wife and two young kids. I discovered I was a writer later than most. I was in college and had recently quit the ice hockey team. Suddenly all these new interests started flooding in, writing being one of them. After a handful of really bad short stories, I decided I was going to write a movie.

At the time, I was enamored with Swingers, so my first attempt at a screenplay was basically just a really bad Swingers rip off. Funny enough, some years later, I wrote a different movie that was also basically just another Swingers rip off. Only this time, it was actually well written and people liked it. That script made the Blacklist in 2012 and jumpstarted my career, landing me an agent and manager. Since then I’ve been banging away as a writer for hire in Hollywood.
